Commercial & Purebred Cattle

At Marquardt Ranches, our passion for cattle runs deep, rooted in a strong appreciation for their resilience and maternal instincts. We take pride in breeding and raising cattle that thrive in harsh conditions. Our herds are carefully selected and bred for their ability to withstand and even flourish in challenging environments, showcasing their tenacity and adaptability. Alongside their ability to overcome tough conditions, our cattle also boast a gentle temperament, making them a pleasure to work with and ensuring the well-being of both the animals and those tending to them. This unwavering passion for cattle drives us to continuously strive for excellence in our herds, always aiming to produce high-quality stock that embodies the very best attributes of the both angus and hereford cattle.

  • Purebred Herefords

We are so proud of this group of ladies. It’s taken us a long time to find a group that checks all our boxes when it comes to making extremely maternal, powerhouse bulls. Matt spends a lot of time researching EPD’s and looking at different bloodlines. Don’t get us wrong, there has been a lot of turn over with purchased animals at the start of this dream but we are finally to the point where these girls are producing a consistent crop of calves that we are proud to offer. We develop our yearlings slow, focusing on not over feeding and allowing them to mature and bulk up naturally without a large push. These bulls are fed an alfalfa, brome and timothy mixed hay and the odd pail of oats during the coldest winter months. Typically, our bull pen of 2 year old’s is open to offers in December.

  • Commercial Herd

Our commercial girls are what lit the spark for this ranch. We are so proud of these girls, when Matt and I got together we started out with a handful of mostly angus cows. After a few years I had finally convinced him that we needed to try a hereford bull on them and the rest is history! Most of our herd is hereford/angus cross cattle at this point. We had recently acquired a group of angus/charolais cows that seem to fit in well to our program. We have our favorites as everyone warns against, but its hard not to appeciate a great tempermented, powerhouse cow that weans a beast of a calf every year. When you spend countless hours with them, you tend to grow attached. If you are evr interested in a pasture tour in the summer send us a message, were always up for talking cattle!
